Allen Defeats #15 Central CC

The Allen Men's basketball team continued their hot streak with a 67-66 win over #15 Central Community College. Once again, the Red Devils got out to an early lead as Ed Wright connected on several 3-point attempts in early going. Central would respond with a run of their own and the Raiders closed the half strong and took a 4-point advantage into the locker room 36-32.

Allen would quickly respond in the second half and knotted the game up in the first two minutes. The Red Devils would trade baskets midway through the half as neither team could extend their lead. Central would go on another run as they grabbed offensive rebounds for second chance points, and led by as many as 8 with under 6 minutes remaining.

Allen kept hanging around and cut into the lead in the final minutes of play. With 15 seconds to play Allen was trailing by one point. Out of a timeout the Red Devils put the ball in Ed Wright's hands for the final possession. Wright drove to the paint and missed a pull up jumper, but Scottie Turner grabbed the offensive board and took his time and scored the go-ahead basket with 4 seconds to play.

Central raced the ball into the front court and tripped near the top of the key. A referee blew the whistle and appeared as though he was going to call a foul, but after a brief discussion the game was declared over giving the Red Devils a win over a ranked opponent.

Ed Wright led the way in scoring with 25 points and 5 assists. Scottie Turner had another good performance with 15 points, 8 rebounds and the game winning field goal.

The Red Devils are now 8-3 overall on the season. Allen will return home on Tuesday for a matchup with Metropolitan Community College at 8:00 pm.
