Allen Men Sweep Neosho

The Allen Men's Basketball team earned a regular season sweep over the Neosho Panthers on Saturday night by the final score of 93-92. The Red Devils trailed for the majority of the game, but the teams would go back and forth all night. Several times Allen would face a near double digit deficit, but the Red Devils would keep fighting to keep the game close.

In the first half, both offenses were scoring at a high rate as Allen shot 56% for the half, while the Panthers shot 55% for the half. The Red Devils closed the first half on a big run and pulled within 3 points at the break (54-41). In the second half the scoring slowed a little for both teams as both defenses tried to tighten up after an explosive first half from both teams. Midway through the second half the Panthers pushed their way out to a 9 point lead and had all of the momentum. Trez Hankins always seemed to have an answer from 3 to keep Allen alive. Hankins would finish the game with 18 points on 6-11 shooting from the 3 point line. The Red Devils stormed back in the final few minutes and near the 3 minute mark Allen finally got over the hump and grabbed a lead. In the final minute Allen held a 2 point lead, and after converting 2 free throws the Red Devils led by 4 points with under 30 seconds to play.

Neosho stepped up and made a big 3 to cut the Red Devil lead to 1 point. Cedric Rollerson connected on 1 of 2 from the free throw line, giving Allen a 2 point lead. Neosho would quickly drive down and score to tie the game at 92-92 with 6.8 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Allen got the ball in Shaikim Jenks hands going full speed down the sideline. Jenks faked a handoff to Trez Hankins and tried to turn the corner, and was fouled by Neosho with 1.8 seconds remaining in the game. Jenks would miss the first free-throw, and the second free-throw hit the front rim and fell in to give Allen a 1 point lead. Neosho tried a homerun pass, but Trez Hankins broke it up and sealed the win for Allen 93-92.

This win guarantees a winning season for the Red Devils with an overall record of 16-14 heading into the Region 6 tournament on Wednesday. Allen finished KJCCC action with a 10-10 conference record.
