Allen Men Continue Hot Start

Allen Men Continue Hot Start

The Allen Men's Basketball program continued their hot start with a 80-61 road conference win over Garden City. The Red Devils didn't get off to a great start, as they struggled scoring in the early going. Fortunately, the Allen defense wasn't giving anything up easy for the Broncbusters to stay in striking distance. Near the 13 minute mark the Red Devils went a big run as Trez Hankins made three 3's to take the lead. Allen led by as many as 12 in first half, but Garden City finished on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 8 at the break (33-25).

In the second half Allen had a much better start and executed 2 backdoor sets against the Garden City pressure to keep the early momentum. Allen continued to defend the paint really well and forced Garden City into contested perimeter shots. Even though Garden City had the clear height advantage, the Red Devils dominated the rebounding. Allen had 57 rebounds (19 offensive), to Garden City's 34 rebounds. Allen pushed the lead to over 20 points midway through the second half, and the largest lead for the Red Devils was 25. Garden City was able to make a few mini runs in the second half, but never seriously threatened the Red Devil lead.  Allen held Garden City to just 33.3% from the floor for the game. This was definitely Allen's best defensive effort.

Darius Love had a huge game with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Malik Hardmon had a monster game of his own with 17 points and 17 rebounds for a double-double. Trez Hankins finished with 14 points on 4 of 8 from the 3 point line. Wesley Anderson Jr. had 10 points.

This win pushes Allen's overall record to 10-1, and Jayhawk Conference record is now 2-0. Allen will host Seward County Wednesday night at 8:00 PM.
