Women's Soccer Sweeps Road Trip

Women's Soccer Sweeps Road Trip

The lady red devils took on two tanked teams this past weekend in St. Louis.  The first match was against #14 St. Louis Community College. The first ten minutes both teams were feeling each other out, very slow and unorganized. After that it was all Allen. Rebecca Lord scored a goal in the 15th minute from an assist from Autumn Wyatt. Allen had many opportunities to score many goals after that, Jess Allen hit one off the cross bar and had a break away and Lizeth Suarez had a break away but both shots went wide and Allen only came away with one goal in the first half. The second half the lady's came out buzzing scoring in the first 5 minutes off a corner kick from Kate Giblin and a header from  Claudia Zahui.  Jess Allen followed soon with another goal that was unassisted. Many opportunities to score more goals were made the rest of the second half but the final score would remain 3-0.

The second game played on our St. Louis trip would on our way home in Illinois.  This game would be against #9 in the nation Southwestern Illinois Community College(SWICC). SWICC would have the run of play in the first 10 minutes but after that the red devils would settle in and get a few opportunities and finally score a goal in the 27th minute, a set piece from Autumn Wyatt to Mirla Chavarria. The half would end  1-0. Again the lady red devils would come out strong scoring In the first 10 minutes of the second half with an unassisted goal by Lizeth Suarez. SWICC would come back 10 minutes later to score a goal off a header back post to make it 2-1.  A third goal unassisted would come shortly after from Claudia Zahui. To make the score 3-1.  The Red devils would have some more opprtutunties off of set pieces, one off the crossbar but the SWICC would get a shot 25 yards out that trickled through the goal keepers hands to make it 3-2. After that it would be back and forth between the two teams tell 3mins left in the game win Claudia Zahui put the fourth goal in to seal the win, the pass came from Tanika Roether for the assist.

No Allen women's soccer team has every beat two ranked teams back to back in one weekend in the 25 year history of the program.
