Lady Red Devils Win in OT Over Panthers

The Allen Women's Basketball team picked up a big home win over the Neosho Panthers on Wednesday night in overtime. The game was intense from the opening moments. The Panthers were pressing all over the court and trying to force a fast paced game. The Lady Red Devils were able to stay calm against the took care of the basketball in the early going. After the first quarter of play the teams were tied at 18 each. At the halftime break Allen would hold a slight 3-point advantage of 32-29.

In the second half the Lady Red Devils continued execute the game plan of taking care of the basketball and rebounding the basketball. This allowed Allen to take a 7 point advantage into the final quarter of play. It appeared as though Allen was going to cruise to victory late in the game as they held a late lead. But the Panthers would keep knocking down timely 3-pointers to keep things interesting. The Lady Red Devils also missed several free-throws throughout the final minutes which kept Neosho close. In the final seconds of regulation Allen held a 2-point advantage. The Panthers drove in and were awarded 2 free-throws with only 2 seconds remaining. Neosho calmly knocked down both attempts to force overtime.

In overtime Allen was able to convert at the rim for easy layups and also knocked down free-throws to help seal the victory. In the end Allen won 81-75. Naomi Smith had a huge game with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Britney Schroer put together a nice game with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Shade Richardson continued her solid play with 14 points. Sara Ortiz also scored in double figures with 12 points.

The Lady Red Devils will travel to Fort Scott, Kansas on Saturday for a 2:00 pm matchup with the Greyhounds.
