Lady Red Devils Top Highland

The Lady Red Devils improved to 2-1 in conference after their win over Highland yesterday. Despite a slow start offensively they were able to battle back and come out with a big win. The final score being 61-48. The team defense of Lady Red Devils impressively held Highland to under 50 points. 

The first quarter of the game ended with Highland up 10-7 but the Lady Red Devils entered the second quarter hot. A 3-pointer made by freshman Skyler Evans put the Lady Red Devils within 2 points early in the second. They were then able to reclaim the lead at 15-14 in the second quarter with another 3-pointer made by sophomore Melody Wilfong. Highland Lady Scotties made a short run late in the second, regaining the lead 22-21 with a minute and half before halftime. Freshman Naomi Smith grabbed an offensive rebound that resulted in an and-one, putting the Lady Red Devils back up again 23-22. Thanks to another made 3-pointer by Hallie Reed and made free throws by Alayjha Bayonne, the Lady Red Devils ended the half up 31-23 over Highland. 

Going into the second half of play the Lady Red Devils were able to stay ahead, ending the third quarter ahead 45-38. In the fourth quarter of action, they shot 73% from the free-throw line and closed the game with another timely 3-pointer made by sophomore Hallie Reed. Freshman Skyler Evans led all scores for the Lady Red Devils with 12 points. Sophomores Hallie Reed ended the game with 11 points and Adji Mbaye ended the game with 10 points. 

The Lady Red Devils are on the road this weekend as they head to Chanute, Kansas to play Neosho County Community College. The game will be played Saturday at 2pm.
