Lady Red Devils Defeat Connors State

After going two weeks without playing any games due to cancellations and battling illness, the Lady Red Devils defeated Connors State College, 64-52. In the first half of play, the Lady Red Devils seemed a bit sluggish due to not having played but once the Lady Red Devils found their rhythm they never looked back. 

In the first half, the Lady Red Devils were able to stay close by playing tough defense and controlling the boards, forcing 19 turnovers and out rebounding Connors State. They headed into the second half with a 4-point deficit, down 16-20. Things picked up for the Lady Red Devils in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Connors State 25-16 and gaining their first lead of the game, ending the 3rd quarter 41-36. Tristian Martin was an offensive spark off the bench in the 3rd quarter, scoring quick points around the basket. In the 3rd quarter Adjaratou Mbaya went 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. Hallie Reed hit a 3-point shot that helped keep the momentum the Lady Red Devils needed to build their lead. Skyler Evans made a buzzer beater chip-in, to end 3rd quarter action and send the Lady Red Devils into the 4th quarter with an extended lead. 

The Lady Red Devils outscored Connors State again in the 4th quarter 23-16. In the second half, the Lady Red Devils shot 48% from the field and 81% from the free-throw line, making 9 out of 12 free-throws. Freshman Naomi Smith led the Lady Red Devils in scoring with 19 points, shooting 64% from the field and Tristian Martin was second leading scorer with 14 points. Skyler Evans had a strong game finishing with 11 points. Adjaratou Mbaya had 12 points and finished the game 100% from the free-throw line, making 6 out of 6 for the game. 

The Lady Red Devils next two games are on the road this weekend. They'll be playing in the Frank Phillips Classic in Borger, TX on Friday, and Saturday. They'll take on Life Prep Academy on Friday and Casper College on Saturday.
