Men's Soccer Win 2 in Minnesota

The Allen Men's Soccer team travelled to Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend and started the season with two wins.  The first game was against Anoka-Ramsey on Friday, Aug. 20th.  The Devils found themselves down in the 15th minute, when Anoka scored on a counter attack.  Allen was able to fight back and tie the score up at 1-1 when Jordan Mase knocked home a cross from Hingis Moremi.  The score was tied 1-1 at half, the field conditions and a strong wind against the devils was a great equalizer in the first half.  In the second half Allen came out better and created several chances, before giving up another counter attack goal to the Rams, who took a 2-1 lead ten minutes into the half.  The Devils roared back with a goal 2 minutes later when Ben Mnqathu tucked one away assisted from Tiago Troyano, to even the score again at 2-2.  Allen controlled the rest of the game and possession creating multiple chances to score.  Jordan Mase scored again in the 70th minute on a left footed shot to the far post assisted by Dara Olukayode.  In the 75th minute Mase completed his hat trick when he was played a through ball by Troyano and finished it smoothly in the back of the net.  The Devils created several more opportunities to score, but couldn't finish any of them off.  James Hobson played in goal for the Devils and recorded the win with 5 saves. The final score was 4-2 and put Allen at 1-0 on the season.

The second game was against the Dakota Technical College Blue Knights.  The Red Devils came out playing great and controlling the possession of the game.  In the second minute, Ben Mnqathu played a great ball from the flank to Cillian Gilligan, who tucked it into the net.  Three minutes later Hingis Moremi served up a corner kick that found the back of the net off of one of the Blue Knights.  In the 10th minute Jordan Mase scored off an assist from Tiago Troyano.  In the 15th minute the Knights got a goal off a mistake in the back from the Devils to make the score 3-1.  Five minutes later the Allen would score again when Ben Mnqathu headed one off a Knight defender from a cross from Dara Olukayode to put the Devils up 4-1.  Another lapse in concentration by Allen created a goal for the Knights to bring the score to 4-2.  In the 35th minute Hingis Moremi scored from a free kick from about 40 yards out, when the goalkeeper could not handle the ball. Mase finished off the scoring in the first half, when he nodded home a header from Moremi to make the score 6-2 at the half.  The second half was much like the first, Allen got the scoring going in the 55th minute when Brooklyn Vodo beat the Blue Knights defense and placed a shot into the back of the net to the far post.  Seven minutes later Guilliano Moerman scored from the outside the box, with an assist from Temesgn Tezera.  In the 78th minute Moerman assisted Romario Tomlinson, when he played a great ball to the back post that Tomlinson headed in.  The final goal of the game was scored by Andre Ireland, who put away a cross from Vodo.  The final score was 10-2 and moved the Devils record to 2-0 on the season.  Oscar Briggs and James Hobson played both played in goal and both recorded 2 saves on the day.
