Allen Hangs On at Highland

The Allen Men's Basketball team survived a late game comeback from the Highland CC Scottie's on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils and Scottie's both got off to a hot start shooting the basketball as the teams would trade leads in the early going. Midway through the half Allen made their push and took a slight lead. The Red Devils would push their lead up to 8 points at the break (31-23).

The Red Devils started the second half off with a Brayden Thompson dunk, and Allen would go on to lead by as much as 14 points, but the Scotties wouldn't back down. Highland made a big run thanks to 3 consecutive turnovers from the Red Devils.

The Scottie's would close the gap all the way to just a one-point lead for Allen with under 2 minutes to play. Fortunately, Allen was able to get a defensive stop, and Nick Whittick sank 2 late free throws to give Allen a 3-point advantage. After a Highland timeout the Allen defense defended the 3-point line well and Highlands last second heave was off the mark, and Allen snuck away with a 63-60 road win.

Allen was led by Tanner Meyer with 16 points. Meyer made several big plays late in the game to help Allen win the close game. Meyer was 6-12 from the floor, and 3-7 from the 3-point line.

Chris Dixon scored 12 points and freshman Brycen Dean played well with 10 points off the bench.

This win moves Allen to 14-5 on the season, and 3-0 in KJCCC Conference play. The Red Devils are still receiving votes to be ranked in the latest NJCAA poll.
