Allen Stuns Metro at the Buzzer

The Allen Men's Basketball team won their second consecutive game in the final moments with a 80-78 win over the Metropolitan CC Wolves. The two teams would trade the lead several times in the first half, but neither team was able to extend much past a 5 point lead. In the final 3 minutes of the first half Allen found a quick offensive spurt, and took a 5 point lead into the break (39-34).

In the second half the Red Devils started off with a 3 pointer from Donavan Seamster to take the lead up to 8 points, but Metro would tighten up their defense from there and gave Allen some fits. The Wolves stormed all the way back and took the lead. Metro would go on to lead by as many as 11 points midway through the half, and with just 4 minutes remaining the Red Devils found themselves down by 10 points. Allen would stick with it and began chipping away at the Wolves lead.

With 1:15 left the Red Devils were down by 4 and on defense, but a quick shot from Metro gave Allen the basketball with a minute remaining. Nick Whittick would attempt a 3 pointer and missed, but Brayden Thompson tipped the offensive rebound out to Donvan Seamster with 45 seconds remaining and Seamster buried the 3 to cut the deficit to just one. After a time out, the Red Devils defense stepped up and forced Metro into a tough shot. Brayden Thompson got  the rebound with 12 seconds left and pass to Ahmed Mahgoub. After a brief scramble Mahgoub passed the ball back to Brayden Thompson. Thompson found Chris Dixon in the corner with just a few seconds remaining and Dixon nailed the go-ahead 3 which put the Red Devils up 80-78. Metro's last second heave was unsuccessful, giving Allen the come from behind victory in dramatic fashion.

Donavan Seamster led all scorers once again with 23 points on 7-13 from the field and 5 of 10 from the 3 point line. Ahmed Mahgoub finished with 18 points on 6 of 13 from the floor. Chris Dixon scored 15 points, and Nick Whittick scored 13 points. Brayden Thompson finished with just 5 points, but he dished out 7 assists, including the game winning assist at the buzzer.

This win pushes Allen to 9-5 on the season. Next Allen will travel to Chanute, Kansas on Friday and Saturday for the Neosho Classic. Allen play Bethany College JV on Friday at 4:00 pm, then Oklahoma Wesleyan JV on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The Red Devils are currently receiving votes to be ranked in the NJCAA Polls.
