Clara Romero signs with York College

Allen Women’s basketball coach, Leslie Crane, has announced the signings of the Sophomore Women’s basketball players to the Universities of their choosing. “It is with bittersweet emotion that we announce our Sophomore players moving on. This is why they came to Allen, to play college basketball and have a chance to be recruited to the university level. Although they will be missed and hard to replace, we wish them all the best and look forward to seeing their success in the future.”

Clara Romero signed her National Letter of Intent with York College in York, Nebraska. Originally from Spain, Clara was the first international player on this women’s team and she was such a role model for more players to come to Iola and to Allen to continue their educations. Clara was willing to do what needed to be done to help the team win-she was a starter, came off the bench, played the toughest post defense and no matter what she was always around the ball to secure the rebound. Over the last two years Clara averaged 7pts and 5 rebounds and helped the Red Devils program achieve new milestones. As one of the 4 returning freshmen from last year, Clara was an integral piece to the Red Devil renovation by being a role model for other international students and a teacher on the floor for her underclassmen. Her dedication and work ethic to the game and to her education, was a wonderful example for our Freshmen class. She will excel at York and bring this same intensity and commitment to their program.
