The Allen Red Devil volleyball program traveled to Highland last Friday and Saturday for a tournament. Allen faced Benedictine JV, Ellsworth CC (Iowa), Southwestern Iowa CC and Iowa Lakes CC. The Devils had a slow start in the Benedictine match after the 3.5 hour drive. They were slow to gain points in the first two sets losing 20-25, 18-25. Allen did gain some momentum in the 3rd set but still lost 33-31. They had to quickly re-group as they faced Ellsworth immediately after playing Benedictine. Allen easily swept Ellsworth going 25-9 ,29-27 , 25-20.
Saturday the Devils opened the day against SWICC winning 3-1 with scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18. Allen ended the tournament against a very scrappy Iowa Lakes team. Allen would still sweep the Lakers winning 25-22, 25-20, 25-18. Allen's offensive highs were balanced again with multiple hitters earning strong numbers. Sammie Alexander led the weekend with 33 kills, Laia Jaca ran the offense dishing out 124 assists and Celymar Cabranes swept up the back row with 60 digs. Allen heads to Labette tomorrow evening to open conference.
