Ladies Fall Short to Top Ranked Butler

The ladies hosted the top ranked Butler women's team on Saturday. The ladies had a game plan to shut down their division 1 post presence. In the first half, the ladies would get off to a great start both on offense and defense. Ariel Walker would be a huge spark on offense as she would be able to knock down 3s early in the game. Kyla Gipson would have a big impact with her defense and rebounding! The ladies would contain Butler's strong post and hold her to just 7 points at half. Zariah Sango would have a great defensive half and start to find rhythm on offense. The ladies would fight their way through and find themselves down just 3 at half, 29-32.

The second half would be much of the same story as the ladies continued to battle against the strength of Butler. Zariah Sango would continue her offensive attack in the third quarter alongside Brandi Jordan who would catch fire from 3 point range. The ladies would keep the game at a 5 point deficit through the third and give themselves a chance to upset the top team. In the fourth, Ariel Walker would knock down crucial free throws to keep the game close. Alejandra Handie would come in and have bigtime rebounds for put-backs. However, the ladies could not get over the hump and would still be down 6 points with 4 minutes to go. With under 2 minutes, the ladies would begin to foul to extend the game and have offensive possessions, but Butler would not miss their free throws. A few late turnovers and missed shots would send the ladies home with a 56-72 loss. However, the end result was not indicative of how the entire game went.

The ladies were led by Ariel Walker with 14, Zariah Sango added 13, Brandi Jordan added 9 and Alejandra Handie had 7 points and 7 rebounds. The ladies are headed to Coffeyville to take on the second place team! The next home game is Wednesday night at 6pm, which is also Homecoming. Come out and support these ladies as they continue to make strides to post season!
