Women Bust Up the Broncs

Women Bust Up the Broncs

The Lady Devils hosted Garden City on Saturday for their home conference opener. Garden would come in with their aggressive/scrappy style of play in which they force teams into 30+ turnovers per game. The ladies would come out strong and attack their pressure head on. Courtney Crippen would get everything going for the ladies with her quickness and ability to get to the basket. Ariel Walker would also join her in the attack as they each would get easy points and multiple free throws as Garden couldn't contain them. Kyla Gipson would make an impact late in the second with her offensive and defensive rebounding to keep the energy with the Devils. Despite the fast back and forth start, which included 6 early lead changes, The Devils would stay poised throughout the chaos of Gardens pressure and would take the lead going into half 43-35.

In the second half, Maisie Schroeder and Zariah Sango would come up huge for the ladies. Maisie would hit back to back 3s to extend the lead for the Devils. She would also step up big on the defensive end. Brandi Jordan would also get hot from the floor to create another spark. She would have some amazing assists to her teammates for easy layups as well. The ladies would find themselves up 71-61 late in the third. Despite some hot shooting, Garden would not go away. They slowly chipped away at the lead and would cut it to 2 points with 2 minutes to go. Zariah Sango would make a big statement as she would have multiple offensive rebounds for putbacks late in the game to keep the ladies ahead. She would also shut down Gardens inside game with her presence. Ariel Walker and Maisie Schroeder would come up big in the end by making 4 crucial free throws to seal the game. The ladies would take a nice conference win 86-81.

The ladies played a very strong game as a team and did not let the pressure of Garden rattle them. 15 steals and 15 assists on the night. Ariel Walker led the way with 18 points and 4 steals, Maisie Schroeder added 17 points and 7 rebounds, Courtney Crippen added 16 points and 3 steals, Brandi Jordan had 14 points and 7 rebounds while Zariah Sango had 13 rebounds and 9 points. If you have not been out to see these ladies (you are missing out), your next opportunity is Saturday at home when they will be back in action against Colby at 2pm.
