Lady Devils Shooting Slump on the Road

The Lady Devils traveled to Pratt this evening for their first conference matchup of the season. Pratt would have a very strong lineup and their defense would cause trouble for the ladies in the first half. Poor shooting and a slow start would plague the Devils throughout the first quarter. Ariel Walker would be the lone spark for the ladies as she would attack off the dribble. The ladies would find themselves down 11-15 at the end of the first. The struggles would continue in the second as no shots would fall from anyone. The ladies would even miss several opportunities on layups as Pratt would extend their lead to 15 late in the second. After a poor 23% shooting from the field, The ladies would go into half down 22-40.

In the second half, Pratt would come out and hit two quick 3s to seem to really open up their lead. However, the ladies would find some rhythm on offense as they would change up their defense to try and disrupt Pratt. Their press would be effective as they would go on a 14-3 run late in the third. The 18 point deficit was still lurking over the ladies as they continued to fight through. Kyla Gipson would be a big spark in the second half for the ladies and would knock down big free throws. In the fourth, Pratt's depth and size would be too much to chip away at the lead. The ladies would have a shooting drought to end the game and would take their first conference loss 49-74.

The ladies were led by Ariel Walker with 12, Kyla Gipson with 10 and Courtney Crippen with 8. Overall, the ladies would shoot an ugly 24% from the field and 14% from 3. They hope to get out of the shooting slump this Saturday at home when they take on a scrappy Garden City team at 2pm. Come out and support them after you enjoy all the turkey and family you can handle.
