Women Fall Just Short to #6 Labette

The Lady Devils traveled to Labette this evening to take on #6 ranked Labette. The ladies knew the challenge going into the game and had no problems stepping up to the plate. The ladies would try to slow down Labette's speed and athleticism and create tough matchups for them with their offensive attack.  There would be 5 lead changes and two ties in the first quarter alone. Courtney Crippen would have a monster game with her speed and handles  as she would attack the glass for easy buckets. The "bigs" for the ladies would find themselves in foul trouble early as Labette was very aggressive on the offensive glass. The ladies would struggle to box out but would continue to fight and only be down 8 at the half, 30-38.

The second half would be a dogfight as the ladies would make a run early in the half as Courtney Crippen would have several "and-1" buckets. Taryn Kelley would also catch fire from 3 in the second half. Zariah Sango also got going in the post with several quick bank shots to keep the game close. The ladies would be down 4 throughout the fourth quarter and could not get over the hump. They would have to foul and Labette would make crucial free throws. Despite the 6-8 point deficit late in the fourth quarter, the ladies never gave up. The feel for the game did not indicate a 10 point loss as the final score showed, 74-64. They fought until the end but would come up just short.

The ladies were led by Courtney Crippen with 18 points. Zariah Sango added 13 while Taryn Kelley and Gabby Guzman each had 10. The ladies will be back in action at home on Saturday at 4pm! Come out and support a team that is fun to watch.
