Women Fall Short in the 4th to Cloud

The Lady Devils hosted Cloud tonight as they came in as the third ranked team in the east. The ladies would have a game plan to contain their stud post player who has been averaging a double double each game. The ladies would get off to a rough start and wouldn't be able to connect on anything! Layups, jumpshots and free throws would not fall. Cloud would be able to have easy shots from the paint as well which would have them out to an early 17-8 lead. The ladies would have no spark in the second quarter and would continue on the downward slide. As expected, clouds stud player would have a double double going into halftime! Going into the locker room, the ladies would be down 20 by a score of 17-37.

Second half would be a much different story. The ladies would come out ready to fight their way back. Gabby Guzman led the charge with hot shooting from 3. Tunmi Amusa would have a big second half on the boards along with her defense to stop their post player from scoring. The defensive intensity would be a complete night and day difference from the first half as the ladies put on a press that Cloud would have no answer to. Late in the third, the ladies would only be down 9 points 42-51 with momentum on their side. The fourth quarter the ladies continued to battle and found themselves down 5 with under 3 minutes to go in the game. The ladies would hold their post to only 5 points and 2 rebounds in the second half. Gabby Guzman would also hit 2 big 3s near the end but it was too little too late. Cloud would knock down their free throws to keep the lead. Despite their hard efforts, The ladies would come up short 62-68.

Ladies were led by Gabby Guzman who had 23 points. Ariel Walker has 12 while Jakira Wilson had 10. Tunmi Amusa had 6 points and 10 rebounds as well. The ladies will travel to take on Cowley in Arkansas City on Saturday.
