Allen opens tournament play with a win over Labette

The Lady Red Devils traveled to Kansas City for the first day of their tournament to play against Labette. Haley Wilson started off the day with the hot hand and led the ladies to a first quarter lead 17-12. However, the ladies would not extend the lead in the second quarter as they struggled to execute their offense and finish easy shots around the basket. The Lady Devils would lead at halftime 31-25.

The third quarter again proved to be a strength for the ladies as they came out  and played team defense which fueled their transition offense. Ariyah Sorrells led the attack as she came up big on the boards and attacked the paint for her points. She ended the game with a double-double including 14 points and 10 rebounds (.... Today was also her birthday).

The ladies extended the lead to 19 at the beginning of the fourth quarter and would hold the lead for the remainder of the game. Haley Wilson had a big night with 23 points and 7 rebounds. She was also 5-10 from beyond the arc. Ariyah Sorrells followed with 14, while Damonica Franklin and Josie Reilly each had 6. The final score resulted in a win for the ladies 66-53.

The ladies are now 4-2 overall - a record that has only been achieved 2 other times in the past 12 years for the women's program. They will face a much tougher challenge tomorrow at 4pm against the athleticism of KCK.
