Men's Soccer Claims Share of Conference Title

The Allen Men's Soccer team took on the Southeast Community College Storm on Saturday, May 8th and came out on top with a 5-0 victory to claim at least a share of the conference title.  Jordan Mase wasted little time in getting things rolling in the men's contest. Most of the crowd had barely settled into its collective seats when he found the back of the net in the game's third minute.

Tiago Troyano was next, pushing the lead to 2-0 less than eight minutes later on a feed from David Almeida. Mase then put the game out of reach with 18:43 left in the first half and then capped his hat trick with a goal in the 59th minute to make it 4-0. Almeida's penalty kick in the 64th minute capped the scoring.

"We put a good performance together," Mase said. "It pretty much sums up the season we've had. Once we got a goal, the momentum shifted into our favor." Desmarteau agreed, praising Mase's leadership on the pitch. "He's been a leader all the time," Desmarteau said. "Even though he wasn't here (on campus) the first semester, he was still staying on the guys at group chat. He set up a running league, and we had guys running when it was negative 20 out. And all the guys did it. Hopefully it will push us through to the end." Almeida and Troyano had assists as well for the Red Devils.

Allen dominated possession for much of the game, making life easy for ACC goalkeeper Ajay Murray, who registered his seventh scoreless performance in conference action. With the game well in hand, Desmarteau lifted Murray for backup Matthew Kingwill with about 10 minutes remaining.  (Pictures and article courtesy of Richard Luken at the Iola Register).
