Allen Defeats Independence 80-78

In the last game before winter break, the Allen Red Devils found a way to win a close game against Independence CC 80-78. Allen was able to finish the first half on a run and gained a 5 point advantage at the break 43-38. Independence quickly erased the deficit in the first minute of the second half tying the score at 43-43, and from there it was back and forth the rest of the way.

Allen held a 6 point lead in the final 2 minutes, and Independence was able to cut into the lead and got as close as 1 point in the final seconds. Jacob Patterson got an offensive rebound off a missed free throw with 6 seconds remaining while the Red Devils had a 1 point lead. Patterson went to the foul line and connected on 1 of 2 free throws to give Allen a 2 point lead. Independence's Tate Turner went the length of the floor and attempted a 2 point shot as time expired and the shot missed the mark, giving the Red Devils their second straight conference win.

The Red Devils were led in scoring by EJ Garnes who scored 14 points and dished out 4 assists for the game. Jacob Patterson had his best performance on the season scoring 13 points and grabbing 3 rebounds.
