Following a year of hardships, the Allen Community College Red Devils wrapped up the regular season on a high note after taking three of four games from the rival Neosho Panthers.
After splitting the opening salvo of a four-game doubleheader at home against Neosho Thursday, the Red Devils took the final regular season doubleheader 5-4 and 5-3 Friday.
Despite freshman starter Jarrett Bell tallying six strikeouts over five innings with no walks allowing two earned runs, freshman Jett Vanatte-Messegner picked up the win in the opener with a pair of flawless innings to secure the victory.
Freshman first baseman Grayson Roberson had a team-leading two RBIs while successful in 2 of 4 at-bats. Freshman second baseman Nicky Moretto hit in 2 of 4 opportunities with a home run for his single RBI. Freshman third baseman Logan Martin drove in a run while hitting in 1 of 4 appearances.
Freshman starter Luke Brodrick picked up the win in the finale with a pair of strikeouts over three innings with no walks and no earned runs. Sophomore Manuel Toro picked up the save with three consecutive strikeouts in his single inning of work.
Sophomore third baseman Meese Robberse and sophomore catcher Lance Vickers tied for the team lead in RBIs with the duo driving in two each while Moretto had one.
With the sweep, the Red Devils improved 16-31 overall and 12-20 in the conference. With the regional tournament accepting the top eight teams in the East Division of the Jayhawk Conference, the sixth-place Allen Red Devils qualified for the postseason. Conference officials have not announced who they will face in the opening round of the regional tournament.
