The Allen Community College Red Devils got 2026 started on the right foot after defeating the Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils 63-58 Wednesday.
After more than a month away due to the Christmas break, the Allen Red Devils returned to the hardwood with a few fireworks Wednesday while defeating the Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils 63-58.
The Red Devils seemed to pick up in 2026 where they left off in 2025 after extending their win streak to three games while posting their first Jayhawk Conference victory of the season.
“We looked rusty and that caused some unforced errors in the first half,” Allen coach Patrick Nee said. “Our defense was really good. We held them to under 60 points for the game.”
Free throws made the difference in the end as KCKCC tried to close the gap with aggressive defense only for it to put some of the Red Devils’ most reliable free-throw shooters at the line.
Freshman guard Clyde Davis Jr., who went 4-4 from the free-throw line while scoring a team-leading 18
points. Those free throws put him just ahead of sophomore forward Jayson Demcher’s 14-point contribution.
“Free throws were big and we did a much better job there,” Coach Nee said.
Other contributors in Wednesday’s win included freshman freshman guard Moses Stephenson, who netted 12 points for third in team scoring but tied Demcher and freshman forward Sheen Sanders for the team lead in steals with three each. Saunders had a team-leading nine rebounds, followed by freshman Derrick Cooper with seven.
With the win, the Red Devils improved to 10-6 and hope to take their Jayhawk Conference record to 2-0 when they host the Labette Larks Saturday.
“Every conference game is important, so we’ll get after it in practice the next two days to be ready,” Nee said.
