Volleyball Splits Opening Matches

Over the weekend the lady Red Devils traveled to Lee's Summit, Missouri to compete in a tri-match, against St. Louis CC and Longview CC.  The girls would have a very strong start to the day sweeping St. Louis Community College in three sets (25-7, 25-19, 25-19).  Bethany Williams and Patricia Rodríguez would be the leading scorers with 7 kills each, followed by Gabriella Dominguez with 6 kills in the match.  Defense was carried by Libero Alexis Hafenstine with 15 defense digs and 4 Aces. 

For the second match of the day the ladies would take on Longview Community College on their home court.  The ladies would start off strong, but come up two points shy in the first set. The second set would involve much back and forth between the two teams, however the lady devils would end up winning the set 25-20. Overall, the lady devils would drop the match in four sets (23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-25). Even without clinching the win the lady devils still had an impressive offensive outing. Freshman Gabriela Dominguez would accumulate 18 kills, 12 defensive digs, and a solo block. Sophomore Ariana Compean would rack up 43 assists in the match as well as 18 defensive digs. Defense was once again carried by sophomore Libero Alexis Hafenstine with 17 digs.

The Lady Red Devils will be back in action for their conference home opener versus Hesston this Wednesday (8/25) in Iola, Kansas at 6:30 pm.
