Allen Takes Down #11 Cloud

On Wednesday, October 23rd the Allen Volleyball program would have a tough task ahead of them. With hopes of staying in post season contention, the Red Devils needed a win against #11 Cloud County at their last home match. Allen would start the match playing point for point with Cloud for the first 10 points of the set. Cloud entered the match with an injured player, forcing them to make some lineup changes. The Red Devils, would take some time adjusting to the lineup change and go down 6 points midway through the first set. Allen wouldn't be able to gain the necessary momentum to close the set, so the T-Birds would take the first 16-25.

In the second, Allen and Cloud would play a tight game. The largest lead for Allen would come towards the end pushing them ahead 23-20. The set would end in the Red Devils favor at 25-21. The 3rd and 4th sets would be rough starts for Allen going down early 8 or more points. In the 3rd the Devils again couldn't push enough to regain the lead. Allen would lose the 3rd 25-19. The 4th set however would provide the Devils what they were lacking in sets 1 and 3. Allen still played from behind for a portion of the set; down to 3-10 at the start. With a motivational timeout, the Devils would regain the confidence and push back to tie Cloud at 12-12. Allen would keep the momentum and gain confidence the rest of the set, making some hustle plays to win 25-19.

The last set would begin much like the others playing point for point. Allen would go down a deficit of 2 points at 5-7 and stay there until the switch at 8. Allen would regain the lead forcing a Cloud timeout at 9-8. Allen would never look back, keeping the lead the rest of the set to win 15-11

Allen was led by Laia Jaca with 41 assists, Sammie Alexander with 16 kills, 0 errors on 48 attempts and Adriana Santiago with 13 kills. Defense was led by Celymar Cabranes with 30 digs and Laia Jaca added 16.

Allen defeated #11 ranked Cloud with scores of 16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 15-11.

After a long 2:45 match against Cloud, Allen would travel to Independence Community College the next day for a non-conference match. Allen struggled at times to find the same fire power they had the night before but still pulled out the win in 4 sets. Allen would win with scores of 19-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22. Allen was led again by Sammie Alexander with 14 kills, Adriana Santiago with 11 and Aricah McCall with 8. Laia Jaca dished out 33 assists. Celymar Cabranes had 30 digs and Jaca also had 19.
