Allen Loses Conference Match to Highland

Allen County volleyball remained winless Wednesday night as they were swept by No. 18 Highland (14-3) 22-25, 20-25, 8-25. The Lady Devils jumped out to a 5-0 lead but an 8-0 run by the Scotties put them ahead 13-10. Highland continued to pull away, leading by as much as five but even as Allen was able to cut it down, they still grabbed the opening set win 22-25.

The Lady Devils knotted it up early in set two at 5-all but a 7-2 run triggered an Allen timeout to try to stem the tide. Highlands lead never got larger than six but but they were never able to climb back in, falling 20-25. The juices were drained going into set three as the Lady Devils found themselves in a 0-4 hole. Things did not improve as the lead increased to 6-19 as set three marked the only set of the evening where the Devils did not hit at a positive percentage. "I think it just goes back to mentality," head coach Whitney Shaw said. "When you fight so hard in the first two and then you don't get it done it's tough to fight for that third. I thought we still had that same intensity coming over but after the first few points I could see that it wasn't there."

Bhana Gony was the standout throughout the night as she was just four assists shy of completing a triple double as she led her team in kills (14) and recorded 13 digs.
