Allen volleyball hit the road for its KJCCC opener at Labette

Allen volleyball hit the road for its KJCCC opener vs. rival Labette and came away with a 3-1 victory. In set 1, Allen started off strong, taking an early 7-4 lead before Labette came back to tie the set at 11. From there, a combination of Allen errors and Labette's strong play allowed the Cardinals to pull away and take set one 25-17.

From the start of set 2 until match point in set 4, the rest of the match belonged to the Red Devils. Allen took a quick 10-3 lead in set 2 by the hitting of Andi Dowell and Leah Hiebert. This strength continued through the rest of the set, and the Devils defense continue to frustrate the Cardinals offense, leading to a set 2 victory 25-12 for the Red Devils.

After the break, Allen's strong serving lead again to a quick lead, with setters Raquel West and Kyra Moore directing the offense, and libero Joely Roe and DS Kayleigh Roberts leading a strong back row. Some well placed dump kills by West frustrated the Cardinals defense, and Red Devils hitters were beating the Cardinal block. A kill by Carly Jackson sealed the set 3 win for Allen, 25-18.

Again, a strong start by the Devils lead to a quick 5 point lead, after which both teams played point for point through the set. Labette got as close as 23-21, but kills by Andi Dowell sealed the conference victory for the Devils, taking set 4 25-21.

The Devils offense was led by Dowell with 16 kills, hitting 0.609 for the night. Leah Hiebert had 11 kills, hitting 0.231. Raquel West had 27 sets to go along with 9 digs, while Joely Roe leading the defense with 17 digs.

Allen hits the road this weekend to Norfolk, NE to play at the NE Nebraska CC tourney Friday and Saturday.
