Shoemaker is named Indoor Region Athlete of the Meet

Pittsburg, KS – Led by Kaitlyn Shoemaker's 3 Region titles she was named 2017 Indoor Region 6 Athlete of the Year.  The women finished 4th in the conference and 7th in the Region. Kaitlyn Shoemaker once again showed her dominance winning the 1 mile run, the 5000 meter run, and the 3000 meter run. Kaitlyn took home 1st in all of her events scoring her the Athlete of The Meet award along with her three Region / Conference Champion Titles. Kaitlyn's times were 17:53.40 5k, 10:25.04 3k, and 5:13.79 1mile. "There shouldn't be any reason she doesn't win the distance programs 1st individual national title in 2 weeks." DeGrado said.

"I was very pleased with all of our teams efforts and willingness to go the extra mile and do some more events for us to be successful as a team," Allen head coach DeGrado said.

The men were lead by  Ka'ven Berry in the 600 meter dash with a new personal record and school record of 1:20.84. Ka'ven finished 2nd overall in the race and will be competing for a podium spot in 2 weeks.

Anthony Glasgow won a Region title in the 800 meter run with a new personal record of 1:54.63. Anthony finished 1st in the event stacked with teammates Vinny Butera, Chris Martin. Anthony also performed very well in the 4x800 taking the lead leg out strong and handing off strong to freshman teammate Ryan Yarde. "I've been very pleased with Anthony's development and growth this track season. He is poised to continue to improve and really reach his potential. DeGrado said.

Philip Lagemann in the 1 mile run finished 3rd overall with a new personal record and school record of 4:19.95.

Ricardo Banuelos qualified for nationals in the 3000 meter run by finishing 3rd overall with a new personal record of 8:48.56 and he did it all from the slow heat by himself.

Up next for the Red Devil track the NJCAA National Indoor meet will be at Pittsburg State University on March 3-4.
