Women's Soccer Sweeps Cowley

The Allen Women's Soccer team defeated Cowley 1-0 Saturday afternoon in an important conference match. It was a big physical battle from both teams throughout the entire game. The Red Devils controlled the majority of the possession during the game but both teams missed chances to score in the first 45. The best opportunity of the first half came from the Red Devils when Leigh-Anne Bartlett was played in behind the Cowley defense and went 1v1 with the goalkeeper. She slotted it just past the on rushing Cowley keeper, but hit the post, and the rebound just missed Brynn Suddeth on the followup and she slipped trying to reach it, keeping the game 0-0 going into halftime.

The second half continued with the physical battle between both teams, and once again both teams were unable to convert on goal scoring opportunities. That is until Brynn Suddeth received the ball at the edge of the 18, and drove in the box at two Cowley defenders. As she pushed the ball past them, they hit her from either side and brought her down in the box for a foul and a penalty kick to the Red Devils. Even after being the one taken down hard on the foul, Sophomore Captain Brynn Suddeth shook it off and stepped up to take the PK. With just under 18 minutes to go, Suddeth composed herself and smashed the penalty into the back of the net to give the Red Devils the 1-0 lead. That goal was all the Red Devils would need to see the game out for the last 18 minutes and take the win.

That is now Suddeth's 5 goal on the season, bringing her total to 5 goals and 5 assists so far. Freshman Morgan Cossairt played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Red Devils again, making 4 saves, and earning her second shutout of the season. The Red Devils are now 6-6 on the season, and 3-4 in conference. They are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to KCK for another big conference match with kickoff at 5:00pm.
