Allen Women's Soccer Takes Down Rival Neosho in Overtime

With a weird start to game day having to change home sites from Allen to Neosho due to weather and pushing the start time back to 6:15pm, the Red Devils picked up a big conference win last night on the road at Neosho. It was a stalemate early in the game, and the two teams went into halftime 0-0, with Allen having the better of the chances but unable to find the back of the net. Morgan Cossairt came up big for the Red Devils stopping the one Neosho chance to keep the score knotted at 0-0.

Just 6 minutes into the second half though, Neosho struck first. After a big shot from distance, Cossairt tipped the shot onto the crossbar, but a Neosho player was the first to the rebound and score, giving Neosho a 1-0 lead. The Red Devils battled back throughout the rest of the second half and with 16 minutes to go they found the equalizer through Leigh-Anne Bartlett, with the assist coming from Brynn Suddeth. Allen had a few more chances to score in the time remaining in the second half but were unable to find the game winner in regulation, so the teams headed to overtime.

With just 2 minutes remaining in the first overtime, the pair of Bartlett and Suddeth combined again for the game winner. Suddeth took a corner kick and Bartlett knocked the ball into the back of the net to end the game. That brings Bartlett's total for goals and assists to 6 and 3 on the season, and Suddeth's to 4 and 5. Cossairt had 5 saves in the match, bringing her total to 78 on the season making her #6 in the nation in saves.

The Lady Red Devils are now 5-6 on the season and 2-4 in conference play. Next game for the Red Devils will be Saturday September 30th at 2:00pm in Iola against Cowley for another conference matchup.
