Lady Red Devils Hold Off Kansas City

Over the weekend Allen Lady Red Devils were able to capture a win at home against Kansas City Community College. The Lady Red Devils opened the game with a slow start, as Kansas City took an early 5-point lead. A basket by Clara Romero put the Lady Devils within 2 points. Adji Mbaye's made bucket and first free throw attempts pulled the Lady Red Devils within 1-point midway through the first quarter. Soon after, Clara Romero helped the Lady Devils regain their lead with a layup. They finished the first quarter strong with a 6-point scoring run, outscoring Kansas City 15-10. 

In the second quarter of action the Lady Red Devils had two big 3-pointers by Hallie Reed and Julynn Lorennji helping them to maintain their lead going into halftime. The Lady Red Devils came into the second half with a 4-point lead. Adji Mbaye's and-one to start the third quarter pushed the momentum for the Lady Red Devils, giving them a 7-point lead. Dalye Hambelton made 2 free-throws to extend the Lady Red Devils lead to 9-points. Kansas City went on a scoring run late in the third quarter tying the game 36-36, but Adji Mbaye grabs an offensive rebound and lays it back up giving the Lady Red Devils a 2-point lead again. In the last few seconds Kansas City had the possession but Julynn Lorennji took a charge that gave the Lady Red Devils the defensive stop they needed to keep their lead going into the fourth quarter. 

Naomi Smith got the Lady Red Devils going in the fourth quarter with a defensive steal, that turned into 2 easy transition points by Chloe Burns. A basket from Tristan Martin gave the Lady Red Devils a 6-point lead part way through the fourth quarter. Kansas City made another scoring run with 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter bringing the game within 1-point. Hallie Reed hit a big time 3-pointer with 3 minutes left, giving the Lady Red Devils a 4-point lead. After Kansas City is able to score and make it a 2-point game again (48-46), Naomi Smith scores an and-one with 2 minutes left of the clock. Lady Red Devils still have possession of the ball and Hallie Reed knocks down another long shot that puts their lead back to 6-points. Clara Romero finishes a transition lay up with a minute and thirty seconds left of the clock, now giving the Lady Red Devils an 8-point lead. The Lady Red Devils were able to finish the game ahead because of made free throws late in the fourth, they finished the game with a final score of 60-51.

Adji Mbaye led all scoring with 13 points and 11 rebounds, ending the game with a double double. Clara Romero had 11 points, while Naomi Smith and Hallie Reed both had 9 points. The Lady Red Devils will take on Johnson County Community College Monday at home. Game time will be at 6 pm.
