Women Sweep Fort Scott

Women Sweep Fort Scott

The Lady Devils hosted Ft Scott for the second time this season tonight. The ladies would be short handed as two of their starting players were injured and Ft Scott gained 2 new players back from injury. However, the ladies would come out with a strong intent to sweep the hounds. The first half would start out slow for the ladies as they would find themselves down 3-8 early. After a quick timeout, the ladies would find their rhythm and make up for the quick deficit. Gabby Guzman would hit a big 3 to spark the ladies on a nice run. Courtney Crippen would also have another strong first half performance with her aggressive play. Alejandra Handie would also have strong inside presence early. The ladies would make a quick comeback and take a nice halftime lead 31-21.

In the second half, the ladies would keep their foot on the gas to extend their lead against the hounds. Maisie Schroeder would have a big second half as she would catch fire on the boards and grab multiple offensive rebounds for easy points. Her inside presence opened up the outside for the shooters. She would have multiple kick outs to Taryn Kelley and Brandi Jordan for 3 point baskets. The inside-outside game took over as the ladies extended their lead to 17 early in the fourth quarter. Even so, Ft Scott would not quit. The ladies would ease up and relax a little too much to let them back in the game with under 3 minutes a to go. Ft Scott would have easy put backs and free throws to cut the lead to 7 with a minute left. Despite the chaos, the ladies would pull out a win 64-59 and sweep the hounds on the season.

The ladies were led by Gabby Guzman with 16, Courtney Crippen with 12, Maisie Schroeder with 10 points and 8 rebounds, Taryn Kelley added 9 and Alejandra Handie had 7 points and 10 rebounds (two players with near double-doubles). The ladies will be back in action at home against Southwestern this Saturday at 530pm.
