Women's Basketball Loses Tough Game

The ladies hosted Redlands this evening for another non conference matchup. Redlands would have multiple weapons from beyond the arc but the ladies would have a matchup defense to throw at them. In the first quarter, there would be 8 lead changes as the ladies would try to contain the shooters. Gabby Guzman would lead the girls in the first half with her aggressive play. The ladies would be down 14-17 at the end of the quarter. In the second, the ladies would seem to forget the defensive game plan and allow one of Redlands shooters to quickly known down 3s back to back. The run would give them the advantage going into halftime 47-35.

Starting the second half, the Devils would come out slow and struggle to make easy baskets and would quickly find themselves down nearly 20 points. However, the fight was long from over. Gabby Guzman and Jakira Wilson would begin to take over on offense. Jakira would attack the rim for layups while Guzman caught fire from 3! The ladies would quickly find themselves down just 9 points. In the final quarter, the full court press would rattle Redlands as Ariel Walker would come up with huge steals for transition points and free throw opportunities. Tunmi Amusa made her debut as a Devil and while she struggled to make easy baskets, her aggressiveness and rebounding would be a huge factor. Guzman would go on to hit 2 back-to-back 3s late in the game to cut the lead to 3 with just minutes to go. The ladies would have to foul to try and gain more possessions and Redlands would not miss many free throws. The ladies would come up short 78-88. However, the ladies never stopped competing and fought as a team until the bitter end. Great comeback!

The ladies were led by Gabby Guzman with 25 points, Ariel Walker added 20 and Jakira Wilson had 18. The ladies will head to Oklahoma on Saturday to take on Connors State.
