Women Struggle at Tonkawa Classic

The Lady Devils traveled to Tonkawa this weekend for a 2 game tournament. The ladies started off in a rematch against the Tonkawa Mavericks. The start of this game would be brutal as the ladies would come out with no energy. They would find themselves down quickly in the first quarter. They would switch defenses and find a bit of a rhythm in the second quarter and fight back from an 18 point deficit to trail 23-36 going into half.

Jakira Wilson would lead the way in the second half as she began to attack the basket and crash the offensive glass for second chance points. However, her efforts would not be enough to slow Tonkawa down in transition. Easy baskets led to Tonkawa extending their lead back to 20. The ladies would end up with the loss by a final 51-76. Jakira Wilson led the ladies with 13 while Ariel Walker added 11 along with ChrisAlee Patterson with 11.

Saturday the ladies would face a strong shooting team of Enid. The ladies seemed to have a positive attitude after the previous day but would again come out of the gate slow and sluggish. They would find themselves down a quick 0-15 before finding a basket. With a defensive change, the ladies would go on a 10-0 run and be down 5 at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, Jakira Wilson would not be stopped. She attacked their zone and would kick out to shooters to lead the way for the ladies to tie up the game at halftime 31-31.

In the second half, Ariel Walker would catch fire  on offense alongside Jakira. The team would try to contain the shooters of Enid, however, their 3 point weapons would take over. The ladies would come up short again by a score 58-68. The ladies were led by a strong game from Jakira Wilson with 23. Ariel Walker added 14 of her own.

The ladies will take on a very strong Redlands team tomorrow night at home at 530pm.
