Women Lose a Close One to Barton

The Lady Devils hosted Barton Saturday afternoon for another conference matchup. The ladies got off to a good start as Jakira Wilson led the charge on offense as she attacked the guards of Barton. She would have 8 quick points and 3 assists in the first half. The ladies would be up 11-10 as Barton would start to go on their own run by having offensive rebounds and knocking down free throws. The ladies would find themselves down 19-11 as Coach Buchanan took a timeout to regather the team. The ladies would then go on a 9-2 run of their own as Kam Summons would have a few steals for easy layups. They would find themselves down only 4 points going into the locker room at the half.

The second half was back and forth the entire way for the ladies. Barton would not miss a free throw in the second half while the Devils could not make their own attempts. Jakira Wilson continued to be hot in the second half and Tamera Shaver also got going on offense. With time expiring, Shaver knocked down a 3 point basket at the buzzer which was waived off by the refs to be no good (it clearly was halfway to the rim and out of her hands.... film replay confirmed it). As the shot would not count, the ladies would be down 6 going into the 4th quarter. In the final minutes, the ladies would have 3 missed "and-1" opportunities at the rim and would come up short by a final 56-66. The ladies also missed their last 6 attempts at the free throw stripe. However, they fought hard and competed to the bitter end of this one.

Jakira Wilson led the way with 19 points and 6 assists. Kam Summons and Destiny Pittman each added 10 points of their own. The ladies will travel to Cowley this Wednesday for their next game.
