Ladies Kick Off 2018 With a Win

Ladies Kick Off 2018 With a Win

The Lady Red Devils came back from Christmas break December 27 to start putting in work with two-a-day practices to be ready for their first conference matchup of 2018 against Dodge City and they would not disappoint. The ladies got off to a hot start by Kam Summons and Jakira Wilson as they would attack the defense of Dodge for easy buckets. The ladies aggressive pressure defense would rattle Dodge from the tip as they would force them into 4 early turnovers. Jakira Wilson had a monster game as she would continue to attack on offense to set up her teammates for easy points. The ladies would keep an 8 point margin throughout the first half and go into the locker room with a 31-23 lead.

The second half would be even more of a statement for the ladies. They would continue to play together and create open opportunities for each other as they all played unselfish and shared the basketball. Jakira Wilson would make big free throws in the second half include 5-6 from the line late in the game. The ladies never let up on defense and continued to extend their lead over Dodge. Kam Summons has several steals late in the game that led to layups for quick points while Kori Seals stepped up on defense to take charges to crush any kind of momentum Dodge tried to gain. A big accomplishment (alongside everything else in the game) was the ladies held their best player to only 2 points. The ladies would come up with a big win over Dodge 66-42.

The stats do not do justice for the team effort and unselfish play the ladies executed throughout the game. Jakira Wilson led everyone with 21 points while Kam Summons added 9. The ladies will travel to Hutch this Saturday to take on a strong Dragon team.

Happy New Year!
