Women's Basketball Falls in Thriller

The ladies traveled to Chanute tonight to take on the big rival of Neosho. There was a little revenge blooming as last year the ladies lost on a buzzer beater shot as time expired. The ladies got off to a slow start as they would allow Neosho to score easy baskets in transition. They would also give up too many offensive rebounds, however, Tamera Shaver led the girls with a great first half performance as she would go 4 for 4 from beyond the arc. There would be 7 ties and 8 lead changes in the first 20 minutes of play.  Kam Summons stepped up her aggressive defense to contribute as well as the ladies would go into half with the lead 42-38.

The second half would be up and down as the ladies struggled to find a defense that would work. The ladies would have no answer for the inside post game of Neosho. There would be 8 more ties and 9 more lead changes in the second half. Kam Summons played her best half of basketball this year to keep the ladies rallying and fighting for the lead. Her 6 steals cake at crucial points in the game. This would give the ladies an 11 point lead late in the third quarter. Tamera Shaver played out of her mind as she would end up with a big shot at the end of the game. Destiny Pittman also came in off the bench and played big minutes as she would have big rebounds against their inside game as well as offensive attacks for both kickouts to shooters and buckets of her own.

Neosho slowly would cut into the lead in the fourth quarter by knocking down free throws. With 18 seconds left in the game, the ladies had to press and try to get a steal as they were down 1 point. A bad pass led to this exact scenario for the ladies as Tamera Shaver would get to the paint and knock down the big shot of the game to take the lead with 10 seconds to go. The quick inbounds of Neosho led to their point guard going coast to coast for a layup at the other end to dagger the excitement of the final seconds. The ladies would lose by a final 91-90.

Kam Summons led the way with 25 points, 6 steals and 5 assists while Tamera Shaver added 24 points, 3 steals and 4 assists. Destiny Pittman added 18 points as well. The ladies have now dropped their first 2 conference matchups by a total of 5 points. The ladies will host Colby at home this Saturday at 2:00 PM.
