Women Have Heartbreak Loss in Conference Opener

The Lady Devils opened their conference play against Coffeyville on Saturday. The ladies were ready to play and compete against the Ravens athleticism. In the first half, Alecia Verge and Kam Summons hooked up to lead the ladies in both steals and scoring. Both girls got going on offense with their aggressive play. Coach Buchanan also threw a defense at Coffeyville that would leave their heads spinning. Tamera Shaver would completely shut down their best player who typically shoots lights out from beyond the arc. Coffeyville's size would prove to be a factor as offensive rebound after offensive rebound would be the result of their easy buckets. The ladies would still fight their way through it and end up in a dead heat at halftime 28-28.

The second half was much of the same story for the ladies. Coffeyville would continue to get offensive rebounds for second chance points even while their two best players were not a factor in the game. Logan Bonner would take over the second half with her hot shooting and defensive attacks. Kam Summons also continued to rack up her own steals to lead the ladies in transition. Akia Andrews stepped up her game in the second half even after being in foul trouble to lead an attack in their full court press. In the second half, there would be 6 lead changes and 3 ties, including one with a little over a minute to go in the game. In the final minute, the ladies would find themselves down 2 with 42 seconds to go as Coach Buchanan ran a play for Logan Bonner to knock down a big shot to take the lead, however, the ball circled every inch of the rim as even the crowd thought the ladies took the lead, and yet it somehow popped back out of the rim to be no good. The ladies would foul with only a few seconds left in the game but would come up to a heartbreaking loss 68-64.

The ladies continued to fight until the very end and are ready for some revenge against their upcoming opponent who happens to be the big rival of Neosho. The ladies were led by Kam Summons who had 15 points and 4 steals along with Logan Bonner who added 13. The ladies will travel to Neosho this Wednesday night for the big rival game at 530pm! Come down and support!!
