Allen Women Fall To Labette

The Lady Red Devils traveled to Labette this evening to take on the Cardinals for another non-conference matchup. The ladies would get off to a good start against the full court pressure of Labette. They would not be rattled and would attack the middle for easy buckets. Katelyn Swanson also got hot from behind the arc to lead in scoring. However, late in the first quarter the foul trouble started and the ladies would have 3 go to the bench one after another. Even so, the ladies would be down 4 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter would be an ugly one for the ladies as they would have multiple turnovers that led to transition points for Labette. The ladies would end up digging a halftime deficit 27-43.

The second half would be up and down for the ladies as they would battle back to stay in the game. Tamera Shaver led the charge with her strong defense and attacks on offense along with the help of Destiny Pittman and Akia Andrews. Back to back 3 point baskets by Akia Andrews and Katelyn Swanson sparked a nice comeback late in the game. The ladies would cut the lead in the fourth quarter to 5 points but could not get over the hump. Several missed layups and lack of defense led to Labette taking the win by a final 79-66. The ladies were led by Tamera Shaver with 17 points while Destiny Pittman added 9, Katelyn Swanson added 8, Akia Andrews added 7 and Alecia Verge added 6.

The ladies will start official conference play this Saturday against Coffeyville at home at 2pm.
