Women's Basketball vs. Seward

The Lady Red Devils traveled to Liberal, America today to take on the #6 ranked team of Seward. The ladies headed into the matchup without Q Alleyne and Akia Andrews as they both were out due to sickness. The ladies got off to a strong start by containing the hot shooting of Seward. Damonica Franklin would get the offense going by her aggressive play inside against the length of their 6'7 post. Presley Stephens would also get going early by hitting a crucial 3 and getting several "And-1" opportunities. The ladies would only be down 3 points with under 2 minutes to go in the first half. However, in the final minutes the ladies would have turnovers that led to easy buckets for Seward and end up being an 11 point deficit at the break.

The second half would be much of the same story as the ladies continued to fight and chip away at the lead to not let the strong Seward team put them away (on their undefeated home court). Presley Stephens continued to attack for the ladies and would end up leading them into the fourth quarter by the small margin of eight, 47-55. Kendra Houston also got going on offense as she would drive into the lane to break down their defense.

In the last quarter, the ladies would run out of gas and leave the shooters of Seward open from beyond the arc and find themselves down 15. The ladies continued to battle as Kamri Summons would get 3 steals for lay-ups to finish out the game. The ladies ended up losing by a final score 78-59 but the score does not reflect the effort and fight they had until the end.

The ladies were led by Presley Stephens who had 15 and Damonica Franklin with 14. Kendra Houston also had 9 of her own while Kamri Summons added 8. The ladies will travel to Independence next Wednesday to get revenge from their first go-around.
