Women's Basketball Sweeps Again

The Lady Devils traveled to Garden City tonight to take on the Broncs after coming off a home sweep against Colby. The ladies started the game in a camouflage defense that took the hot shooters of Garden out of their game. Tamera Shaver and Kamri Summons led the charge on defense to shut down their guards. Katelyn Swanson led a charge on offense in the first half by hitting three big 3 point shots. Akia Andrews also got going in the post for easy buckets early in the game as well. The first half would be 20 minutes of sharing the basketball as a team and playing unselfish on both ends of the floor. The ladies ended up having the lead in the first half 42-36.

The second half would prove to be an even stronger half for the ladies. Damonica Franklin would get going in the post and Garden would have no answer. Franklin would go 7 possessions in a row on a high-lo feed from Akia Andrews to attack the rim and score every trip. Garden rotated 3 different defenders on Franklin but found no way to stop the inside game. Kamri Summons also got going because of the steals she created on defense that led to transition points near the end of the game. The ladies led the entire fourth quarter by a margin of 10-12 points. They would knock of Garden at home and sweep them in the regular season by a score 80-72!

The ladies had a very balanced effort throughout the game of sharing the basketball and competing for the entire 40 minutes. Damonica Franklin led the way with a double double of 29 points and 10 rebounds. Akia Andrews also had a double double with 15 points and 10 assists. Kamri Summons added 12 points and 4 steals. Katelyn Swanson had 9 of her own and Tamera Shaver had 8. The ladies will take on Butler at home next Wednesday at 6pm.
