Allen Women Win Over Dodge City 64-55

The Lady Red Devils traveled to Dodge City tonight to play their first matchup of 2017. Despite having illness and injuries over Christmas break, the ladies were ready to take down a conference opponent. Kamri Summons and Tamera Shaver would lead the ladies in the first half by knocking down big shots and playing tough defense to shut down the hot shooter on Dodge. The second quarter would be a turning point for the ladies as they would go on a 10-2 run and attack their defense with their aggressive play. A bigtime addition for the ladies was the return of Presley Stephens from her ACL surgery. She would have crucial minutes on defense and knock down a big 3 to get the run started. The ladies would end the quarter on an 18-6 run and go into halftime with a 28-14 lead. 

 

The second half would prove to be a great inside post game for the Lady Devils. Damonica Franklin and Akia Andrews would take over the game both on offense and defense. Both would have monster game on the boards along with playing a nice high-low game to create for each other to score easily in the paint. Kori Seals also had a big game with defensive rebounds and crucial blocked shots. The ladies did a great job of playing together and sharing the basketball throughout the game. Late in the game, the Devils would have several turnovers that cost them a 16 point lead in the fourth quarter but they would continue to fight and hang on to take the victory over Dodge by a score of 64-55. 

 

The ladies had an all out team effort to get the win. This led to very balanced scoring as well. The ladies were led by Damonica Franklin with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Akia Andrews added 14 points and 15 rebounds while Kamri Summons had 10 points and 6 rebounds. Presley Stephens also scored 8 points and Tamera Shaver scored 7. The ladies will have their next conference game at home against a very strong Hutchinson team on Saturday.
