Coffeyville Over Allen In First Conference Game

The Lady Red Devils started off conference play this weekend by traveling to Coffeyville. The ladies got off to a great start by throwing a defense at Coffeyville that they hadn't seen before. The Red Devils had them playing on their heels as they were confused and continued to miss shots. Akia Andrews got off to a hot start shooting along with defense by crashing the boards against Coffeyville's size. Sequerah Alleyne also got going early by attacking the rim and breaking down their defense. Even though the ladies struggled shooting it from outside, their defensive effort and hustle led them to a halftime deficit of only 6 points - 39-33.

The ladies would go into the locker room at half and not come out as the same team in the second half. Coffeyville would start the third quarter off with a 22-2 run that the ladies would not recover from. The lack of rebounding led to a lot of second chance points for Coffeyville. That combined with settling for tough shots throughout the game instead of attacking the rim would result in the first conference loss for the ladies by a score of 69-44.

The Red Devils were led by Sequerah Alleyne with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Tamera Shaver and Kendra Houston each added 7 points while  Akia Andrews had 6 points and 6 rebounds. The ladies are now 0-1 in conference and will face the bigtime rival Neosho on Wednesday night the 16th at 6pm.
