Big road win for the Lady Red Devils 65-56 over Colby

The Lady Red Devils traveled to Colby,KS this evening for another conference game. The ladies would get off to a very sluggish start in the first quarter. They would have no offensive leader to spark them the entire first half. The ladies would be down 11-15 at the end of the first but would compete in the second quarter to keep it close and only be down 29-31 at half despite shooting 25% from the field. Damonica Franklin led most of the way by dominating the glass and coming up with big minutes in the post.

 

The second half would prove to be a completely different story for the Lady Devils. They came out and shot the ball with confidence and played together as a team both on defense and offense. Josie Reilly, Haley Wilson and Mckena Arlt led the ladies in a comeback as they would each hit crucial shots in the second half. Rachael Bruce also had monster minutes in the paint. This would bring the ladies to take their first lead at the end of the third quarter 44-40 and they would not look back. 

 

In the fourth quarter, the ladies would continue to build their lead by knocking down crucial free throws and playing solid defense to finish the game. The ladies second half stats were no comparison to the first - FG percentage went from 25% to 34%, 3 PT percentage went from 22% to 35% and Free Throws from 62% to 100%. The final score results in a big road win for the ladies 65-56. 

 

The ladies were led by Haley Wilson who had 14 points and 9 rebounds, Josie Reilly had a nice double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Damonica Franklin with 14 rebounds and 8 points and Mckena Arlt with 11 points and 3 rebounds. It was crucial to have everyone contribute to the game in order to get the victory. It was also huge to almost have 3 players with double-doubles in the game. The ladies are now 6-10 overall and will play at home on Saturday against Cloud at 2pm.
