Allen Red Devils at Johnson County

The Lady Red Devils traveled to Johnson this evening to take on the #1 Nationally ranked team in Division II. The ladies got off to a great start and executed their zone defense exactly how they needed to in order to keep Johnson's strong posts and quick guards from scoring easy baskets in the paint. The first quarter would prove to be a defensive quarter for both teams with the score being in favor of Johnson 11-10.

In the second quarter, the ladies would fight to take a 4 point lead that was led by strong post play from Ariyah Sorrells, but within the last 2 minutes of the half they would lose their poise and turn the ball over too many times which allowed Johnson to capitalize on quick transition points and grab a half time lead of 32-21.

The second half for the Lady Devils would be a struggle offensively. The aggressive defense of Johnson would shut down the outside shooting and overall flow of offense for Allen. Johnson would also have too many second chance points (including 23 offensive rebounds) that gave them a win over the ladies by a final score 66-42.

The ladies definitely gave Johnson a run for their money and competed against a stout team. Ariyah Sorrells led the way with 12 points while Ashley Sally and Mckena Arlt each added 10.

The ladies are now 4-6 and will begin their tough conference schedule on December 2nd against Seward.
