Lady Red Devils vs. Tonkawa Mavericks

The Lady Red Devils took on the Tonkawa Mavericks this afternoon for another home game. The first quarter of play went back and forth between the two teams with 3 ties and 6 lead changes. The Lady Devils got into foul trouble early as 3 of the starting 5 would have to sit for the entire 2nd quarter. The fouls also proved to be a problem for the Mavs. Tonkawa gave the ladies plenty of chances at the free throw line but they could not connect and ended the half shooting 9/19 from the line. This led to a halftime deficit 35-43.

In the second half, the ladies would change their defense and put full court pressure to try to create havoc for Tonkawa. Their hustle and effort paid off as it forced Tonkawa into 23 turnovers and multiple opportunities for the ladies to capitalize on but they were never able to cut the lead to under 5 points. Tonkawa relied on their stud, Hill, to break the press and get to the free throw line to finish the game with a 84-77 win over the Lady Devils.

The Lady Devils were led by Ashley Washington who had 26 points including 5-11 from beyond the arc. Zasha Taylor added 14 points and 6 rebounds while Haley Wilson had 13 points. The ladies are now 4-5 on the season and will travel to Johnson on Monday for their last non-conference game.
