Red Devils Sweep NEO on Opening Day

 

GAME 1

 

The base paths were crowded on Saturday, February 18th in game one for both offenses in a high-scoring game where the Red Devils came out on top against NEO, 12-8.

 

The Red Devils got on the board in the first inning.  Madisyn Havenstein drove in one when she doubled to center field.

 

Allen tacked on three more runs in the second inning.  The offensive firepower was led by Brooklyn Goehring and Robin Todd, all driving in runs in the inning.

 

NEO scored four runs in the fourth inning off a grand slam by Payton Compton. The Red Devils answered back with 2 more runs putting the score at 9-4 Allen after 4. After holding NEO in the fifth inning Allen tacked on 2 more runs in the bottom of the inning. NEO's offense lit up again in the sixth inning putting up 3 but the Red Devils answered again by taking another run in the bottom of the inning. Allen held NEO from scoring in the seventh to make the final score 12-8 Allen.

 

Skyler Jackson took the win for the Red Devils. The right-hander lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out seven.

 

Kalan Nye took the loss for NEO. The bulldog went four innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits and striking out two.

 

The Red Devils racked up 15 hits in game one.  Goehring, Bailey Cravens, Jackson, Todd, Hayley Gerberding, and Havenstein all managed multiple hits for the Red Devils.  Goehring led the Red Devils with three hits in five at bats.

 

GAME 2

 

Madisyn Havenstein was clutch at the plate with runners on base driving in six on two hits to lead the Red Devils past NEO 13-9 in game two of the double header.

 

An early lead helped propel the Red Devils to victory. Allen scored on a 0-1 count single by Haley Gedrose in the first inning tying the game at 1-1. After NEO scored a run in the second inning, Allen pulled away for good with a single by Havenstein scoring 2 in the second inning followed up by a 3-run home run by Hayley Gerberding on a 2-2 count to put the score to 6-2 Allen. NEO pushed another run across in the third inning as the Red Devils had a hot third inning with pushing across another 5 runs starting with a fielder's choice by Bailey Cravens and followed up with a grand slam by Havenstein putting the score to 11-3 Allen. After holding NEO to a 3 up 3 down inning in the fourth, Allen pushed across another run in the bottom of the inning by an RBI triple by Brooklyn Goehring. NEO fought back pushing across 4 runs in the fifth inning as the Red Devils pushed another run across off an RBI single by Skyler Jackson putting the score to 13-7 Allen. NEO put up one last fight in the top of the seventh with 2 more runs before the defense shutting them down to make the final score 13-9 Allen.

 

Morgan Collins was in the pitcher's circle for the Red Devils. The pitcher surrendered nine runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out five.

 

The Red Devils racked up ten hits on the in game two. Goehring and Havenstein each managed multiple hits for the Red Devils.  Goehring went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Allen in hits.

 

Allen Softball is now 2-0 on the season and is back in action on Wednesday, February 22nd at 2:00 and 4:00p at home against Oklahoma Wesleyan JV.
