Lady Red Devils make strong Sweep in Home Opener

Red Devils nabbed the lead late in game one in an 18-7 victory over Southeast Community College on Saturday. 

Red Devils got things started in the first inning when Darby Lewis grounded out, scoring one run. Southeast Community College scored three runs in the third inning. Southeast Community College big bats were led by Jessica Lusk and Brooke Brestal, all driving in runs in the frame. Red Devils trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chelsey Henry doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs which boosted a 14-run 4th inning. Red Devils was boosted by Sam Greninger who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Greninger doubled in the first, homered in the third, homered in the fourth, and doubled in the fourth. Red Devils collected 15 hits in game  one. Greninger, Winter HenrySierra ThompsonChelsea Lake, and Henry each had multiple hits for Red Devils. Courtney Gard was the winning pitcher for Red Devils. She lasted four innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out two. Dela Boyd threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Boyd recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Red Devils. Lusk took the loss for Southeast Community College. She lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and 12 runs while striking out two.

In game two, the Red Devils remained dominant over Southeast Community College with a 17-0 victory, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Red Devils fired up the offense in the first inning, when Darby Lewis grounded out, scoring one run. They notched on seven more runs in the second inning. Julia Keating, Henry, Lewis, Chelsea Lake, and Savannah Guy all drove in runs in the frame. Winter Henry led Red Devils to victory by driving in four runs. She went 3-for-4 at the plate. Henry drove in runs on a home run in the fourth. Red Devils launched three home runs in game two. Sam Greninger went for the long ball in the third inning. Henry had a long ball in the fourth inning. Lake put one out in the first inning.

Red Devils racked up 14 hits in the game. Henry, Lake, Greninger, Chelsey Henry, and Lewis each managed multiple hits for Red Devils. Abby Walker led the Red Devils to victory on the pitcher's mound. She surrendered zero runs on four hits over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Thompson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Red Devils are back in action on Tuesday at Maplewoods Community College at 1/3p.
