Allen Men Upsets Cowley

Allen Men Upsets Cowley

The Men's Soccer team won a big conference match up 2-1 overCowley Saturday evening. This was a very important conference win for the Red Devils to get back on track. The start of the first half was a back and forth game with both sides having opportunities to score but just couldn't capitalize. It was about fifteen minutes into the game when Cowley played a ball over the top of the Red Devils defense, where their forward got to the ball and scored a goal from the corner of the eighteen yard box.

After the goal the Red Devils looked a little shaken up, allowing Cowley a couple more shots on goal that Alan Ibarra saved. Allen regained its composure and started possessing the ball, which allowed them to get some opportunities on goal. The second half started just like the first half with Cowley coming close to scoring a goal right away, but Cowley was unsuccessful. The Red Devils started slowing the game down and possessing the ball to try and get the Cowley defenders tired. Midway through the second half Allen had a couple clear opportunities to score but just couldn't put them away.

At times it was hard for the Red Devils to get control of the game, because Cowley liked to try and play the ball over the top of the Allen defenders for their forwards to make a run. With the second half coming to an end, the Red Devils knew they needed to create something to come back from being a goal down. With ten minutes left in the game freshman Brevin Allen received a pass from Austin George and put it in the back of the net to make the score 1-1. After the goal the Red Devils started to gain some momentum. With less than five minutes left in the game the Red Devils got fouled right outside of Cowley's eighteen yard box. Freshman Wilmer Canalesstepped up to the ball to try and give the Red Devils the lead at the end of the game. The shot ricocheted off the wall, hit the bottom of the cross bar and went in. The whole Allen team came together on the sidelines to celebrate what ended up being the game winning goal. The job wasn't done as there was still a couple minutes left on the clock. The Red Devils kept their composure and finished the game strong to capture their first conference win of the season.

The Red Devils will be traveling to KCK this coming Tuesday. Kick off is at 7:30. Men's Soccer overall record is now 3-7-1, and a Jayhawk conference record of 1-4-1.
