Allen Survives Late Scare From Larks

The Allen Men's basketball team survived a late game scare against Hesston College on Saturday night in Iola. Both teams made shots the entire game and it was rare to see either team string together consecutive stops throughout the ball game. The Red Devils took a 6 point lead in the break at 50-44.

In the second half the Larks would quickly cut into the Allen lead. Hesston even temporarily tied the game, but Allen would go back ahead on the next possession. Near the end of the game Allen found a way to get a couple stops and extended their lead up to 11. Tanner Meyer made several big plays late in the game to keep Allen ahead.

Hesston could continue to fight until the end and trimmed the lead back down in the final seconds. In the end Allen came away with a 92-86 win. Allen dominated the rebounding which was a big key for the Red Devils to come away with the narrow win.

Tanner Meyer and Ahmed Mahgoub led the way in scoring for Allen with 18 each. Meyer connected on 4 of 9 from beyond the arc. Mahgoub also grabbed 9 rebounds and had 2 blocked shots. Nick Whittick scored 17 points and dished out 4 assists. Chris Dixon scored 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Allen is now 18-7 overall on the season and 7-2 in the KJCCC standings. Next Allen will host Highland on Wednesday evening at 8:00 pm.
