Allen Survives at Hesston

Allen Survives at Hesston

The Allen Men's basketball team kept their win streak alive in dramatic fashion on Monday night as they defeated the Hesston Larks 75-70. The Red Devils got off to a good start and led through the first few minutes, but then some sloppy turnovers led to some easy baskets for the Larks and they stole the momentum midway through the half. Hesston would go on to lead by as many as 9 points with 8 minutes remaining in the first half. Allen would close on a big run to comeback and tie the score 37-37 at the break.

In the second half the Red Devils came out with better energy and quickly snagged the lead. Several times in the second half Allen would increase their lead to 8 or 9 points, but Hesston always had the answer to keep the game within striking distance with some timely 3's and free-throws.

In the final minutes it appeared as though Allen was going to close out the game as they built a 8 point lead, but the Red Devils missed on 4 consecutive free-throws to give Hesston some life. Fortunately the Larks did not connect on their game tying 3 point attempt. Allen would make 2 final free-throws with under a second remaining to close out the win.

Ed Wright led all scorers with 26 points on 10-16 from the floor and 3-5 from the 3 point line. Cedric Rollerson and Brayden Thompson were the only other Red Devils with double digits with 13 and 11 respectively.

Allen is now 19-4 on the season, and 8-0 in the KJCCC standings. Allen will travel to Highland on Wednesday for a second matchup with the Scotties.
